YEMEN, JAPAN SIGN INITIAL AGREEMENT ON FIGHTING PIRACY



SANA'A, April 25 (Saba) - Yemen and Japan signed here on Sunday an initial agreement on providing patrol boats by Japan to the Yemeni coastguard for supporting its efforts to fight piracy and terrorism.

The agreement stipulated that Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) will finance a preliminary survey for the coastguard capacity-building project in addition the providing a number of patrol boats.

The project aims at promoting the coastguard capacity in order to be able to carry out its tasks, prop up the international efforts targeting to fight piracy and terrorism and to ensure the security of international shipping lanes at Aden Gulf and the Arabian Sea.
