IRGC drill, exercise to defend PG islands: Commander

Bandar Abbas, Hormuzgan Prov, April 24, IRNA – The onging military drill of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps’ forces is aimed at exercising how to stop possible penetration of hypothetical enemy to the Persian Gulf islands, an IRGC commander said Saturday.

Commander of the IRGC’s Ground Force Mohammad Pakpour made the remarks while speaking to reporters on the sidelines of the third stage of the IRGC military exercises dubbed the “Holy Prophet 5” which started in the Persian Gulf region earlier Saturday morning.

The military maneuver coincides with the 31st anniversary of the IRGC's establishment.

The IRGC 's naval, air and ground forces are taking part in the major drill that is designed to display Iran's deterrent military power to help establish security in the strategic region.

The commander said that heavy weapons, including long-range artillery with smart bullets, are being used for the first time during the war game.

He added that all pre-planned targets have been successfully hit so far by the forces of the IRGC’s ground force.

The war game is to demonstrate the country's defensive capabilities and its determination to maintain security in the region./end
