KPU ANNOUNCES 34 PARTIES PASS VERIFICATION TO JOIN GENERAL ELECTION
Jakarta, July 7 (ANTARA) - The General Election Commission (KPU) announced that 34 political parties comprising 18 newly established parties and 16 old parties passed the factual verification process enabling them to join the 2009 general election.
The 18 new political parties were verified among 35 newly established ones, KPU chairman Abdul Hafiz Anshary made the remarks in a televised press conference here on Monday night.
The verification was conducted by the central KPU office, provincial KPU office and the regential and mayoral KPU offices over the requirements set by the electoral body, Anshary said.
In addition, the KPU also announced six of ten local parties in the autonomous province of Nanggroe Aceh Darussalam (NAD), which had passed the verification to join the 2009 legislative general election.
