Pakistani lawmaker stresses to resolve Iran’s nuclear issue peacefully
Islamabad, April 22, IRNA - A Pakistani lawmaker on Thursday has urged the international community to resolve Iran’s nuclear issue peacefully instead of issuing threats.
Talking to IRNA, Muhammad Ali Durrani Senator of Pakistan Muslim League-Q and former Information minister added that US has been threatening Iran for a long time but it had, so far, failed in Iraq and Afghanistan thus couldn’t afford to start another conflict with Iran.
“If the US attacked Iran then it would be a great mistake and would place the whole region under a disastrous configuration”, he believed.
Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei has said that the Iranian nation will bring on their knees those who pose threat to Iran, in a stern response to US President Barack Obama’s threat with nuclear attack.
The Supreme Leader called on the international organizations to condemn the US nuclear threat to Iran and said that the United States and other nuclear weapons states have violated the Convention on the Disarmament and Non-Proliferation Treaty by refusing to annihilate their stockpiling of nuclear weapons.
The legislator was of the view that dual standards should not be adopted against Muslim countries. He said that many countries have ambitions for nuclear programmes but the West is only putting pressure on Iran
“Discrimination always gives birth to resentment and this West has to understand”, Muhammad Ali Durrani made it clear.
Iran being the signatory to the nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) can use nuclear energy for peaceful means.
“West should resolve Iran’s nuclear issue with peaceful means, war in the region is not in the interest of any body”, Muhammad Ali Durrani said.
He opined that the strategy of pressurization and coercion rarely produce desired results.
The law maker added that war is not the solution of any issue rather it creates more trouble in the long run. “War is not the positive approach”, the politician said.
The United Nations Security Council has already imposed three rounds of sanctions against Iran. In addition, several western nations have warned that the Islamic republic will face harsher sanctions if it fails to halt its uranium enrichment programme.
Iran says its nuclear programme is solely meant for civilian applications of the technology and has called for the total eradication of all weapons of mass destruction.
The politician opined that Iran has been cooperating with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and following the international law regarding its nuclear programme.
“Iran is a responsible country and it should be allowed to develop nuclear energy without any external pressure”, Muhammad Ali Durrani said./end
