IRNA chief meets several counterparts in Seoul

Beijing, April 22, IRNA – IRNA Managing Director Ali-Akbar Javan-Fekr Thursday in Seoul, South Korea, separately met and conferred with a number of his counterparts from OANA member states.

The meetings were held on the sidelines of the Summit Congress of the Organization of Asia-Pacific News Agencies (OANA) opened in the South Korean capital this morning.

In his meeting with Chief Executive Officer of Australian Associated Press (AAP) Bruce Davidson, Javan-Fekr outlined the performance of his agency.

He voiced IRNA’s readiness to promote educational, technical and communications cooperation with major world news agencies.

Welcoming expansion of all-out ties with IRNA, Davidson said since the Islamic Republic of Iran is an influential regional and world country, Iran’s developments and news are of great importance to the Australian people.

In his separate meetings with Managing Director of the Emirates News Agency (WAM) Ibrahim al-Abed and the Azeri News Agency (Azartaj) chief, the IRNA head called for boosting of bilateral cooperation with the two agencies.

Javan-Fekr further invited his three counterparts to visit Iran in the near future.

IRNA chief arrived in Seoul on Wednesday to participate in the OANA meeting.

He is to deliver a speech and read the message of Iranian Minister of Culture and Islamic Guidance Mohammad Hosseini in the three-day event.

Representatives from some 45 news agencies from 33 countries are participating in the event which is to end on April 24.

OANA was formed in 1961 upon the initiative of UNESCO to secure direct and free exchange of news among the news agencies of a region inhabited by more than half of the world's population./end
