Iran enjoys profound ties with Africa: President

Tehran, April 22, IRNA - President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said here on Thursday that the Islamic Republic of Iran enjoys consolidated and profound ties with the African continent.

He made the remarks prior to his departure for a two-nation African tour which will take him to Zimbabwe and Uganda.

He added that his visit to the two African states is aimed at further expansion of all-out ties with those countries.

The President announced that cultural, economic, trade and investment cooperation will be discussed with senior Zimbabwean officials.

Attending the inauguration ceremony of a tractor production line and renovation of a textile factory are among the programs of his visit to Zimbabwe. President Ahmadinejad is also to take part in Zimbabwe’s international trade exhibition.

He further noted that while in Uganda, the two sides would review bilateral political and economic relations.

President Ahmadinejad’s three-day visit is taking place upon invitation from his Zimbabwean and Ugandan counterparts Robert Mugabe and Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, respectively.

A number of agreements on trade and economic cooperation are expected to be signed during President Ahmadinejad’s two-nation tour./end
