Iran envoy calls for boosting of Tehran-Seoul ties

Beijing, April 22, IRNA – Iran’s ambassador to Seoul expressed hope that te Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA) and South Korea’s Yonhap News Agency could boost ties.

Talking to IRNA, Iranian envoy Mohammadreza Bakhtiari said IRNA-Yonhap cooperation will prepare the grounds for boosting of Tehran-Seoul ties in all arenas.

Bakhtiari said mass media play a vital role across the globe, adding true reports help people to get updated on world events.

Referring to the current visit of IRNA Managing Director Ali Akbar Javanfekr to Seoul to participate in the Organization of Asia-Pacific News Agencies (OANA) Summit Congress, he described the event as a great opportunity for participants to get acquainted with the viewpoints of Iran on mass media and communication.

Pointing to the two countries' ancient-old relations, he cited Tehran-Seoul ties as increasing.

IRNA’s Managing Director arrived in Seoul on Wednesday.

A three-day summit of heads of news agencies in the Asia-Pacific region will begin in Seoul on Thursday.

Javanfekr is to deliver a speech and read the message of Iranian Minister of Culture and Islamic Guidance Seyyed Mohammad Hosseini in the event.

Javanfeker is scheduled to hold talks with several participating news agencies managers on issues of mutual interests.

The OANA Summit Congress will end on April 24.

Some 45 news agencies from 33 countries are participating in the event.

OANA was formed in 1961 upon the initiative of UNESCO to secure direct and free exchange of news among the news agencies of a region inhabited by more than half of the world's population./end
