Great potentials exist for Iran-Kazakh ties:Iran's FM

Tehran, April 21, IRNA -- Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki said on Tuesday that Iran and Kazakhstan have numerous potentials for developing bilateral ties.

He made the remarks in the 11th meeting of the Iran-Kazakhstan Joint Economic Commission, which was attended by the country’s Transportation and Communications Minister Abelgazy Kussainov.

Mottaki said that the meeting was a great step in line with developing bilateral ties, adding that the two countries’ trade has reached $two billion.

Referring to the agreements made between the two countries’ presidents to raise the figure, he noted that it requires extra efforts by both the Iranian and Kazakh officials.

Joint Committee for Investment was formed in line with Iran’s policy of privatization, he said, adding that grounds are well-prepared for foreign investment in Iran.

Describing the two countries’ presidents as the architects of new ties in the region, establishment of peace and stable security is prerequisite for regional economic and cultural prosperity.

A memorandum of understanding (MoU) was signed between the two sides, said director general of Foreign Ministry for Economic Cooperation, Gholamreza Ansari.

It contains 52 items in 10 fields of economy, agriculture, industry and mine, human resources, oil, transportation, food, tourism, sports, education and telecom, he added.

The next meeting of the commission will be held in Astana in 2010./end
