Ahmadinejad: Iran ready for simultaneous fuel swap
Tehran, April 21, IRNA – President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has told a German TV network that Iran is ready for a simultaneous swap of 3.5% fuel with 20% one.
According to the Presidential Office Website, Ahmadinejad, in an interview with German TV network R.T.L., added that Iran does not believe in possession of nuclear weapons because of its religious and political values and thinks that nuclear weapons have no use.
“If western politicians are against nuclear weapons, they should first destroy their own atomic weapons.” the president said.
On a question about tension between Iran and the west on nuclear issue, the president said Iran has nothing such as tension but some western governments have been acting against Iran for the past 30 years and their behavior has been common for us.
“Before the Revolution, there was a dictatorship in Iran, but it was supported by the same western governments which are now against us,” the president said.
“The Islamic Republic of Iran is acting according to rules and regulations and is entitled to have uranium enrichment and use nuclear energy in peaceful ways,” he added.
“Those countries which have atomic bombs are asking us not to use peaceful nuclear energy. No one can answer this contradiction. If nuclear energy is bad, the European countries and US should put it aside first of all."
It has been evident to Iranian nation that certain European countries along with the US do not want Iran to make progress and gain access to high technology.
Stressing that Iran is willing to have friendly and constructive relations, the president said certain European leaders do not know what they are doing. They have lost their own interests and the interests of Europe. They are not able not to have relations with Iran. They should evaluate their behavior.
Responding to the German reporter’s question what message Ahmadinejad has for Europe and German chancellor, the president said,” Europe interests, prestige and future oblige it to respect the rights of others."
“The Europeans should not blindly follow the US. It is necessary that the Europeans have an independent identity so that they can influence the future of the world.”
“Iran has never had any hostility with Germany and we want the Germans to be advanced, beloved and free. We want the rights and character of Germany to be kept and they are not humiliated. We want to have good economic and cultural relations with Germany, but they should know that we do not need them.”
On fuel swap, the president said we need 20% enriched fuel for Tehran Reactor and according to IAEA rules, we should be given that fuel.
But we do not accept any conditions. Their conditions are not acceptable for us. They made the whole process too long and began some political games.
“We informed them that we do not have much time and if they do not give us the fuel, we will produce it ourselves and we have started it. However, we are still ready for a fuel swap but without any condition."
On a question that the west is suspicious about Iran’s intentions in nuclear activities, President Ahmadinejad said their suspicion is funny. Countries which have thousands of atomic bombs are suspicious that we may make one bomb in the future!
“They are not against atomic bombs, because in our region, there is a forged regime which has nuclear weapons; accepts no inspection and enjoys absolute support of western governments."
“Brazil, Algeria, Syria, Venezuela and many other countries want to have peaceful nuclear activities, but certain western countries do not let them. But they support countries which have atomic bombs./end
