Int’l efforts for disarmament a must: Soltanieh

Tehran, April 19, IRNA -- Iran's Permanent Representative to the International Atomic Energy Agency Ali Asghar Soltanieh said on Sunday that basic measures should be taken by the international community to prevent the impacts of nuclear weapons on humanity.

Addressing the closing ceremony of Tehran International Disarmament and Non-Proliferation Conference Sunday, he presented a report on the specialized workshop on countries’ international commitments regarding disarmament and NPT and said that this section discussed non-proliferation of nuclear weapons and its link with international security.

Public concerns as well as the measures which can help promote disarmament were also reviewed by the workshop, he said, noting that Israeli measures to prevent IAEA inspectors from inspecting its nuclear activities were also on the agenda.

First International Conference on Disarmament and Non-Proliferation started on Saturday with the participation of officials from 60 countries.

The two-day conference was held at the IRIB’s International Conference Hall in northern Tehran./end
