Bahraini King welcomes any proposal for boosting ties with Iran

Manama, April 15, IRNA – Bahrain’s King Hamad bin Isa Al-Khalifa said here Wednesday night, “We welcome any proposal for expansion of relations with Iran.”

Hamad bin Isa Al-Khalifa made the statement in a meeting with Iran’s Vice-President for Co-ordination and Economic Affairs, Ali Agha-Mohammadi.

Referring to the history of relations between the two governments and nations, King Hamad added, “Our relations with Iran have always been expanding and that trend would continue.”

He emphasized, “There are lots of grounds for cooperation between the two countries, but we have currently focused on energy and business fields, as they are more comprehensive and that way we can serve our nation’s interests more greatly.”

Referring to regional and international developments, the Bahraini King reiterated: “In the past the region was witness to exhausting wars and disputes and it can not tolerate to be the scene of more wars and clashes. We need advancement and moving forward, and we do not want to turn back.”

In the meeting, issues on Iran's potentialities and capabilites were discussed. Following are the names of the top officials of both countries who attended the meeting: Deputy Prime Minister Sheikh Muhammad bin Mubarak and Bahrain’s ministers of industries and commerce, oil and gas, parliament and councils, consultant minister of foreign affairs, Bahrain’s ambassador to Tehran, and Iran’s Ambassador in Manama Hossein Amir Abdollahian and Vice-President Aqa-Mohammadi.

Ali Agha-Mohammadi meanwhile expressed Iran’s readiness for exchange of experience in industrial, commercial, investment, scientific, technological and other fields, stressing the need for activating and implementing the signed memoranda of understanding between the two countries.

The head of the Iranian delegation in Bahrain further emphasized, “In order to achieve comprehensive development we are in need of regional peace and security and I agree with you on the point that the region cannot tolerate another war.”

The Iranian high ranking delegation arrived in Bahrain’s capital city, Manama, on Wednesday morning on an invitation extended by Bahrain’s deputy prime minister.

Accompanying the Iranian vice president there are deputy ministers of commerce, economy, health, housing and rural development, and managing directors of the National Aviation Organization, the Central Insurance Company, Electricity Company, and the Exports Promotion Center./end
