Mottaki to Italian Govt: Free arrested Iranian citizens soon

Tehran, April 15, IRNA – Foreign minister, in a phone talk with an Iranian inmate in Italy, told him that he has asked the Italian government to free all arrested Iranian citizens as soon as possible and that Italy must not get engaged in a game in which they will be doomed to defeat.
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Information and Media Head Office, Manouchehr Mottaki was talking with Ali Damirchilou, after enquiring about his health conditions and the status of the prison in which he is kept.
Mottaki, a couple of days ago, also had a similar phone talk with another arrested Iranian citizen, Hamid Ma’souminezhad, who is the correspondent for the Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting (IRIB).
In his phone talk with Damirchilou, Mottaki added that “The Islamic Republic of Iran takes advantage of its entire legal, consular and political capabilities in Rome and in Milan through its representative offices aimed at freeing the arrested Iranian citizens in Italy.”
He added: “In line with the viewpoints and approach of the president of Iran on the need for heeding the affairs of the Iranian citizens abroad, both the Legal Affairs Deputy of the Presidential Office and the different offices of the Foreign Ministry have focused their efforts aimed at securing the interests of the Iranian citizens.”
Ali Damirchilou, after elaborating on his status in the prison thanked Mottaki and appreciated the efforts of other top officials for helping him and the other arrested Iranians.
Meanwhile, the father of Ma’souminezhad said that his son has been arrested because he treats people and other journalists so well and that his son has nothing to do with arm trafficking. It is a Zionist plot, he said.
Italian counter-terrorism prosecutor Armando Spataro claims the arrests were made after a nine-month investigation.
In response to this, the Foreign Ministry has thus far summoned the Italian envoy to Tehran and demanded explanations about the
“politically motivated arrests.” /end
