Some members of terrorist Rigi group renounce violence: Boroujerdi

Tehran, April 15, IRNA -- Chairman of Majlis Commission on National Security and Foreign Policy Alaeddin Boroujerdi confirmed the news reports that certain members of terrorist Rigi Group have renounced violence and sought clemency.

Talking to reporters Wednesday after the end of Majlis formal session, he said that they may enjoy clemency.

“Clemency to those who had been deceived and have not committed crimes is a logical policy,” he said.

Commenting on Iran’s membership in the World Inter-Parliamentary Human Rights Committee, he said that this is the first time in the past 30 years that Iran becomes a member of the entity.

Western countries made extensive effort to prevent the move, Boroujerdi said.

“This provide Iran with an opportunity to declare its viewpoints on human rights and defend itself against the unfounded accusations,” he added.

Describing Iran’s membership in the committee as a historical opportunity, the MP further stated that if Iran is active in the international scene, most of the countries will stand by Iran./end
