Thompson cleared over alleged misconduct
Former Australian head swim coach Alan Thompson has been cleared of inappropriate
behaviour following a four-month investigation into his alleged misconduct at a
coaching conference on the Gold Coast in 2007.
Thompson stepped down from his role last December after anonymous allegations were
made regarding his conduct at the conference.
But Swimming Australia said on Wednesday that a lengthy investigation by Louise
Donohoe, SC, had found no evidence to support the allegations made against Thompson.
Thompson accepted a redundancy package from SA in January this year following a
restructure that included splitting up his roles as head coach and high performance
general manager.
Leigh Nugent has since been appointed head coach of the Australian swim team.
Swimming Australia issued a statement stating the final findings of Donohoe's
investigation had been presented to the Swimming Australia board on Monday and an
out of session board meeting was held on Tuesday night to discuss the findings.
