HUNDREDS OF HECTARES OF PINE FOREST IN JAMBI PRONE TO FIRE

Jambi, Indonesia, July 5 (ANTARA) - Hundreds of hectares of pine forest surrounding Sungaipenuh town in Jambi province are prone to fires during the dry season now affecting the area, local residents said.

"In the past week alone, fires razed pine forests at Tursina valley and Aurduri village. Luckily, local residents managed to put out the fires," Akmaluddin and Budhi, both Sungaipenuh residents, said on Saturday.

Budhi said the fire that razed pine forest at the Tursina valley panicked him because it was not far from his farm land.

Local people with the help of personnel from the Kerinci district administration managed to prevent the fire from spreading to nearby areas, he said.
