W SULAWESI DETERMINED TO GRAB CACAO MARKET IN MALAYSIA
Mamuju, W Sulawesi, July 5 (ANTARA) - West Sulawesi province, Indonesia, is determined to grab the Malaysian market for its cacao exports, an official said.
"Cacao is in great demand in Malaysia so we still have a chance to grab the Malaysian market for our cacao," Head of the West Sulawesi Provincial Development Planning Agency (Bappeda) Syarif Burhanuddin said on Saturday.
Malaysia's demand for cacao is estimated at 160,000 tons per annum, leaving behind the United States with 140,000 tons, Australia 80,000 tons, China 20,000 tons and Thailand less than 2,000 tons, he said.
He said West Sulawesi's cacao production was currently estimated at 90,436 tons and the figure wss expected to increase to 100,000 tons in 2011.
