TURKISH AIR FORCES TO CELEBRATE 100TH ANNIVERSARY IN 2011

ANKARA (A.A) - 08.04.2010 - Turkish Air Forces Command will organize a series of activities to celebrate the 100th anniversary of its foundation in 2011.
Activities will aim at sharing the joy, excitement and pride of the command's 100th year with the Turkish nation, Air Forces said in a statement aired on its web-site on Thursday.
As part of the celebrations, an international air show will be held in the Aegean province of Izmir on June 4-5.
Moreover, "Global Air Chiefs Conference (GAC)" and "European Air Chiefs Conference (EURAC)" will be held in Turkey in 2011. Air force commanders of numerous countries are expected to attend the events.  
Turkey will also host a conference titled "Recent Advances in Space Technologies" with the participation of numerous academicians and scientists from all over the world in June 2011.
Air Forces has recently held a competition and selected a special logo and slogan for its 100th anniversary.
Within the scope of the 100th anniversary activities, a series of design, painting and academic project competitions will be held, exhibitions will be opened, a special monument will be constructed, a march and symphonic piece will be composed, fashion shows will be organized, a documentary will be shot and books will be published throughout 2011, Air Forces also said.  
Turkish Air Forces is a branch of the Turkish Armed Forces. It is one of the oldest military aviation organizations in the world.
The history of Turkish Air Forces dates back to 1909 when efforts on aviation were initiated in the Turkish Army. These efforts were developed in 1910, and in 1911, the Turkish Military Aviation Organization took its place among the world's first aviation organizations almost in the same years along with the USA, France, UK, Germany, Italy, Austria and Russia.
