22nd Fobana inaugurated at New York

New York, July 5 (BSS)- The 22nd North American conference
(Fobana) was formally inaugurated by the Vice Chancellor of
Dhaka University Professor SMA Faiz at Hotel Hilton, New York on
Thursday evening.

The main programmes of Fobana are being held on July 4,5 and
6. The programmes include seminars, symposium, cultural
programmes, talent show, NRB conference and award giving
functions.

Organized by America Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and
Industries (ABCCI), the opening ceremony was attended among
others by Daily Naya Diganta editor Alamgir Mohiuddin,
Daily Ittefaq editor
Rahat Khan, Dhaka University Professor Ahmed Kamal, Daily
New Age editor Nurul Kabir, politician Haider Akbar Khan Rono and
Editor of BDNews Towfiq Imroze Khalidee.

Inaugurating the conference Prof Faiz expressed his
satisfaction over the presence of the Bangladeshis at the
function terming it as a 'mini Bangladesh'. He said, it is a
matter of hope that the immigrant Bangladeshis are playing vital
role in helping the development process of the country by sending
foreign currencies.

The DU VC expressed his hope that the Bangladeshi culture, history
and traditions would be further upheld by holding such
conferences abroad.

Moderated by Fobana member secretary Hasanuzzaman Hasan,
the opening ceremony was also attended by its convener Gias Ahmed,
joint convener Zakaria Masud Ziko, Ali Imam, Akhon Samoy editor Kazi
Shamsul Hoque, Thikana editor Fazlur Rahman, and Bangladesh editor
Wajed A Khan.
