Bangladesh shot out for 115 by Pakistan
Karachi, July 5 (PTI) Bangladesh batsmen collapsed like a
house of cards against a disciplined Pakistan attack as they
were skittled out for a paltry 115 in their inconsequential
last Super Four match of the Asia Cup here Friday.
In a match that has no bearing on the final which will be
contested between India and Sri Lanka on Sunday, Bangladesh
played some poor cricket after winning the toss in heavily
overcast conditions to fold their innings in just 38.2 overs.
Although Pakistani pacers Abdur Rauf (3-24) and Rao
Iftikhar (2-20) bowled well to unsettle the Bangladeshis but
some of the visiting batsmen only had themselves to blame for
their dismissals.
It was the lowest total of the competition after Hong
Kong's 118 earlier in the qualifying rounds.
Opener Tamim Iqbal (26), captain Mohammad Ashraful (14),
Mushfiqur Rahim (15) and Alok Kapali (17) all got starts but
were out due to lack of application.
Farhad Reza batted for 30 balls to score just three runs
before he was last man out in the 39th over.
Bangladesh lost three wickets in eight balls twice in the
innings, collapsing from 47 for one to 49 for four and then
from 92 for five to 99 for eight.
There was only one substantial stand of 41 for the second
wicket between opener Tamim Iqbal and Ashraful.
Rauf, who also bowled impressively against India, made
the ball move around a bit and got plenty of bounce to
unsettle the Bangladeshis early in the innings.
He had Nazimuddin caught off a top-edged pull shot at
covers by his captain Shoaib Malik in the second over.
Ashraful then pulled Rauf for a six to mid wicket and
next ball lobbed a short-pitched ball to Misbah-ul Haq at
gully.
Raqibul Hasan was out first ball, dismissed by Sohail
Tanvir while Tamim edged to Younis at slip to give Rauf his
third wicket.
Alok Kapali was dismissed edging to Younis at slip off
Iftikhar after he faced 27 balls and hit four boundaries.
Rahim was run out for 15 at team total of 92 for six.
After Rahim's dismissal, Mahmudullah (11) and Mashrafe
Mortaza (1) fell in quick succession to make it 100 for eight
before the last two batsmen held on for a while to add 15 more
runs. PTI COR
