Iran, a responsible country: Indian Foreign Secretary

New Delhi, April 5, IRNA -- Iran is a responsible country. India regards Iran as a “very important country in the region, with which it has substantive civilisational relations," Indian Foreign Secretary said on Monday.

“Iran is a country with which we have bilateral relations which go back many many years. It is a substantive relationship. We regard Iran as a very important country in the region and a country with which we have had, as I said, extensive bilateral relations and dialogue and cooperation. It is a responsible country,” said Nirupma Rao Sunday at a press briefing while replying to the question asked whether the fact that Iran has not been invited for the two-day Nuclear Security Summit in Washington, meant that it was not a "responsible" country.

The Foreign Secretary replied, "Iran is a responsible country."

Countries like North Korea, Cuba, Iran and Venezuela, have not been invited for the Summit in Washington.

Meanwhile, India’s Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh and 42 other world leaders will attend the two day summit, which is being held amidst growing concerns of nuclear weapons falling in the hands of terrorists will discuss ways to strengthen global initiatives to prevent this, to be held on April 12-13./end
