Majlis will not allow flood of imports: Iranian Parliament speaker

TEHRAN, Apr. 5 (MNA) -- Iranian Parliament (Majlis) Speaker Ali Larijani has said that the Majlis will not allow foreign goods to be easily imported into the country.

The Majlis will follow the guidelines of the Supreme Leader and will be “a forerunner in preventing the easy import” of foreign goods, Larijani said during a Majlis session on Sunday.

The parliament speaker also stated that the quality of domestic products should be improved and urged the relevant ministries to discharge their duties in this regard.

He went on to say that during the last Iranian calendar year (ended March 20, 2010), Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei repeatedly asked officials to abide by the law.

The Leader’s emphasis on abiding by the law should be the foundation for advancement and justice in the upcoming the decade, he noted.

Elsewhere in his remarks, the Majlis speaker expressed his gratitude to the security and intelligence forces for their “professional and courageous” efforts to obtain the release of a kidnapped Iranian diplomat.

Heshmatollah Attarzadeh, the commercial attaché of the Iranian consulate in Peshawar, was kidnapped on November 13, 2008 and freed in late March 2010.
