Sistan-Baluchestan University to host Muslim geographers confab

Tehran, April 5, IRNA – The 4th International Muslim Geographers confab is to be held in the Sistan-Baluchestan University beginning April 14-16.
Executive secretary of the event, Gholamreza Nouri told IRNA Sunday that the confab will seek to strengthen the scientific, research, economic, social and cultural bonds between geographers from the Islamic states.
Highlighting Iran’s position in the region, the Middle East and among the Muslim states, he said that a plan to set up Muslim geographers’ community is also on the agenda of the conference.
Nouri pointed out the previous rounds have been held in Tehran and Isfahan.
He further noted that the event will provide an opportunity for the geographers from around the world to exchange views, present their strategies to ward off dilemmas and achieve development.
The conferees will focus on 24 topics including facilities and limitations for development in Muslim states, role of geographical paradigms in promoting convergence and unity in the Islamic world, the process of globalization and challenges facing the Muslim countries, new energies, tourism, management of water resources, economic and geopolitical significance of Persian Gulf in the Muslim world and regional cooperation.
Nouri said that some 55 geographers from 14 countries including the US, Canada, France, Germany, Britain, Malaysia, India, Pakistan and China are participating at the conference.
Some 400 articles have been submitted to the secretariat of the event of which 70 have been selected for presentation during the event while 190 others will be presented in the form of posters, he said.
Sistan-Baluchestan University, Iran Association of Geography, and the university’s Research Center for Geography are the sponsors of the event./end
