FM: Some UNSC members welcome Iran nuclear fuel swap deal

Tehran, April 5, IRNA – Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki said on Sunday that some members of the United Nations Security Council welcomed Iran's new formula for nuclear fuel swap deal.

Mottaki made the remarks upon his arrival from his African tour on Sunday.

Speaking to reporters, he said there is some over and covert pressure by certain permanent members of the UNSC and non-permanent members over Iran’s peaceful nuclear drive but these states have confessed to the country's just and principled stands to this point.

During his meeting with officials of Gabon which is a non-permanent member of the UNSC, he said they described Iran’s new formula for nuclear fuel swap deal as logical.

“If failed policies of former president George W. Bush are halted and they let President Obama keep its promises on bringing great changes, they can resolve their regional problems through interaction with Iran and help remedy the US failed polices in the region to some extent,” he said.

During his five-day African tour, Mottaki visited Algeria, Gabon and Senegal and conferred with the countries’ high ranking officials on issues of mutual interests as well as regional developments.

Mottaki also attended a special ceremony marking the Independence Day of Senegal.

He also exchanged views on the upcoming G15 summit pertaining to nuclear fuel swap deal and expansion of economic cooperation with those states.

The Arab world is expected to play a prominent role in the issue of Palestine and there is possibility for OIC and Arab league to have a part to this effect, Mottaki said.

Tehran is to host an international conference on nuclear disarmament, he said, adding that Iran believes that all existing nuclear weapons around the world should be destroyed.

The Tehran international conference indicates Iran’s transparent policy and good-will with regards to nuclear weapons, he said./end
