Irons fires at Bells

Three-time world surfing champion Andy Irons scored an eye-catching win over new
star Dane Reynolds in round one at Bells Beach.
The men's Rip Curl Pro, round two of the world tour, is finally underway after more
than four days of waiting.
Their first round started on Saturday afternon, immediately after Australian
Stephanie Gilmore had won the women's event.
Irons, a two-time winner at Bells, is back in full-time competition after a year off
and he showed some ominous form on Saturday.
He scored 14.33 in the all-American opening heat to beat Reynolds' 8.56 and the 8.40
from world tour newcomer Nate Yeomans.
Organisers were able to complete 10 of the 16 first-round heats in the one-metre
conditions.
Other round-one winners so far included Australia's reigning world champion Mick
Fanning, compatriot and last year's Bells winner Joel Parkinson, and nine-time world
champion Kally Slater.
