Pakistani PM reports progress in Iran power import

Islamabad, April 3, IRNA -- Pakistani Prime Minister Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani has said there is progress towards import of electricity from Iran to overcome the worst shortage of power in the country.
Pakistan faces shortage of around 5000 MW electricity and the country observes 10-15 hours loadshedding.
Prime Minister Gilani said in his monthly radio address Friday night that Pakistan has already signed two Memorandums of Understanding with Iran for import of electricity.
He said the Government and the people will continue fight against the menace of terrorism. He said for the first time the campaign against terror has the political ownership and support of the people.
About Pakistan-US strategic dialogue, he said relations between the two countries have transformed into partnership. He said the United States has assured to provide assistance to help overcome the energy crisis.
The Prime Minister said Pakistan wants relations with India on the basis of sovereign equality. “We want to resolve all issues including the core dispute of Jammu and Kashmir through peaceful means”.
He said during talks on water dispute, India has agreed to installation of telemetry system on rivers.
The Prime Minister said during his last visit to Pakistan, President Hamid Karzai assured that Afghanistan will not allow its soil to be used against Pakistan.
He said during the just concluded visit of the Turkish President, the two countries have signed several MoUs for investment in different sectors. Turkish President also offered investment in Pakistan's energy sector./end
