49 Thai nationals in Malaysia return home
SONGKHLA, April 2 (TNA) – Forty-nine Thai nationals facing difficulties in the neighbouring country of Malaysia were repatriated on Friday under bilateral cooperation between the two countries.
Wearing pink shirts, an auspicious colour for the king, the returnees entered the country at the Thailand-Malaysia border in Sadao district of the southern province of Songkhla.
According to the report, the Southern Border Administrative Provinces Center (SBPAC), Thai Foreign Affairs Ministry and Interior Ministry joined together in the project to help human-trafficking victims and Thais facing trouble for other reasons in Malaysia.
Yala native Damrong Mahamad, 42, was one of the workers who returned home after spending 19 years in Malaysia.
He said tearfully he was arrested because he had no work permit. He and his family including his five children born in Malaysia had no identification cards. His children have no nationality.
He asked Thai authorities to help him and his family earn Thai citizenship and have ID cards and he will return to live with his relatives in Yala. (TNA)
