Qantas plane forced to turn around

A Singapore-bound Qantas flight forced to turn around after an engine problem has
landed at Sydney Airport.
A pilot discovered the "issue" soon after the near-full QF5 jumbo left Sydney at
5.10pm (AEDT) on Tuesday, the airline said.
The aircraft, which was over the sea at the time, was turned back, dumping fuel on
the way to meet landing requirements.
It landed safely about 6.15pm (AEDT).
The 414 passengers will remain on board while engineers assess the problem, a Qantas
spokeswoman said.
They will only be removed, and an alternative aircraft arranged, if the issue is
major and cannot be repaired quickly, she said.
Otherwise the plane will continue on its journey to Singapore, then on to London.
The spokeswoman said the situation was not an emergency.
"The pilot identified there was an issue with the aircraft (and) we believe it has
impacted one of the engines," she said.
"I can't speculate any further."
