Gen Amnuay said police believed the attackers were the same group carrying out the series of attacks using explosives in Bangkok.
Mr Banharn, who was premier from mid-1995 to late-1996, is now chief adviser to Chart Thai Pattana Party, one of the parties in the coalition government led by Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva.
The explosions took place as the Red Shirt anti-government protesters of the United Front for Democracy against Dictatorship (UDD) are protesting in Bangkok demanding that Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva dissolve the House and call a general election. (TNA)
