President Ahmadinejad hopes Nowruz celebrations become universal

Tehran, March 27, IRNA – Iran’s President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad hoped the Nowruz Celebrations which have already been registered as an international event become universal.
He made the remarks on Friday after welcoming his Tajik counterpart Imamali Rakhmanov who has traveled to Tehran to take part in Nowruz celebrations.
Nowruz is the first day of Iranian calendar year and was recently registered by the United Nations as an international event.
During his meeting with Rakhmanov, Ahmadijnejad pointed to the two governments’ will to maintain bilateral relations at the highest levels possible and said during the past years very good agreements have been reached in such areas as transportation, energy, water and culture.
He also believed the Tajik president’s visit to Tehran to take part in the new year celebrations was in fact a gesture on his part indicating solidarity with Iranian culture.
Rakhmanov, too, said his nation always wished the best for Iranians, stressing that promoting of ties with Iran topped priorities in his government’s foreign policies.
President Ahmadinejad also welcomed Iraq’s President Jalal Talabani to Tehran on Friday.
Talabani is here to attend New Year celebrations.
During his meeting with President Talabani, Ahmadinejad stressed Iran’s support for unity and domestic security in Iraq and said consolidation of ties between the two countries was to the benefit of both nations.
Talabani said his nation regarded Iranians as brothers and friends and called for deepening of cultural ties with Iran.
Iran is to host the first-ever international celebration of Nowruz.
The event, which was recently registered by the UN General Assembly as the “International Day of Nowruz”, will be celebrated with participation of presidents of Tajikistan, Afghanistan, Turkmenistan and Iraq in Sa’dabad Cultural Complex on March 27./end
