Rann government sworn in for third term

After plenty of anxious moments and the agony of a protracted vote count, it's
finally official: Mike Rann is back as the premier of South Australia.
Mr Rann's third term in the top job began with his swearing-in by SA Governor Kevin
Scarce at Government House in Adelaide on Thursday afternoon.
Although all the votes are yet to be counted, Opposition Leader Isobel Redmond
conceded defeat on Wednesday after running a very close race.
Postal votes are still being counted, but Labor is forecast to hold 25 seats to the
Liberals' 18, with four independents, in the 47-seat lower house.
Mr Rann announced his new cabinet on Wednesday, with three new ministers - John Rau,
Jack Snelling and Grace Portolesi - at Thursday's swearing-in.
After the formalities, the new cabinet made its way to the lawns of Government House
to face the media.
Mr Rann said he was "delighted" with the new ministers, but it was time to roll the
sleeves up again and get back to work.
"I'm pleased now the government has been sworn in, we can get cracking again," he
told reporters.
"We've had four or five days where really nothing could happen under the caretaker
provisions, but all that ends as of now."
He said the first crackdown would be on government advertising.
"We'll be suspending government advertising in a range of areas ... then the whole
question of government advertising will be handed over to the Sustainable Budget
Commission," he told reporters.
"I want to save millions and millions of dollars in advertising that will be put
into health."
Ads targeting road and community safety will remain, he said.
Before the official proceedings, Ms Portolesi told AAP the race for her seat wasn't
as close as some had thought, but it was still "surreal" to be included as a Labor
minister.
"I'm thrilled and honoured to be taking a seat at the cabinet table," she said.
