Anti-govt alliance to lodge appeal after court uphelds decision

BANGKOK, July 2 (TNA) - A lawyer representing anti-government
demonstrators was planning to file another appeal after Thailand's Civil Court on Wednesday upheld its earlier temporary injunction forcing the protestors to unblock its obstruction of two key roadways near Government House.
Lawyer Nitithorn Lumlua said core leaders of the People's Alliance for Democracy, a coalition campaigning against the government, would appeal the Civil Court's injunction within this week.
Wednesday's hearing by the Civil Court came after the six defendants petitioned the court to revoke its decision, arguing that freedom of assembly and the right to demonstrate are guaranteed under the Constitution.
The injunction was issued after teachers and parents of students at a school near the Government House filed a petition complaining they were inconvenienced by the noisy demonstration.
The court on Monday issued a temporary injunction and ruled that the demonstrators must open two major roads near the school and stop using loudspeakers on weekdays between 7.30 am and 4.30 pm effective
immediately.
In upholding the decision, the court maintained that the rally, organised by the defendants, is violating other people's rights as they blocked roads in the area.
Meanwhile, the plaintiffs lawyer told the court that the defendants
continued to block the roads and were not obeying the court injunction.
The court is scheduled to hold the next hearing on July 7. (
