WE WANT YOU TO KNOW MORE ABOUT MONGOLIA

WEDDINGS
Although certain distinctions existed in ancient Mongolian wedding rites, depending on clan and tribal affiliation, they also had much in common. Most typically, when he considered that his son was ready, a father would begin seeking a bride. When the choice was made, he would send a go-between to the girl's parents to ask for her hand in marriage for his son.
The go-between would present a khadag and gifts. To refusal to accept the khadag and gifts signified refusal of the match, but if they were accepted, the two sides would negotiate a dowry. The intended bride was not supposed to know about this.
The groom's parents were expected to provide a ger and furniture, while the parents of the bride dressed her beautifully. A week before the wedding, the girl's parents finally told her about her future husband and had her try on a dress worn only by married women. Then, with a girl friend, she would set off to visit her soon-to-be in-laws.
