"LET'S TALK ABOUT AMERICA" LECTURE SERIES

Ulaanbaatar, /MONTSAME/ The American Cultural and Information Center hosted last week a lecture on “Being an Immigrant in America”. Mr Onder Durmus talked about his own experience of being an immigrant in the United States and broadly discussed what makes the US one of the most appealing places for immigrants.
Onder started his talk with information about the US Constitution and how immigration started in the early days of colonial America. He displayed fascinating photos of immigration history with diverse people from different cultures and backgrounds. He noted that all immigrants have their own traditions and languages but they managed to live all together with great respect and mutual understanding in order to build United States of America.
About 50 high school and college students attended this lecture. They asked Onder about the main reasons for the high immigration rate in the US and also similarities and differences of some nationalities coming to US. Our speaker showed some pictures of famous Americans and he explained their origins and where they all came to America. It was very interesting to learn that many famous Americans are immigrants or children of immigrant parents. Students asked some related questions about proportions of African Americans and Latin Americans, for example, "what nationalities are considered Latinos or Asian Americans?".
