Red Shirt leader to PM: No talks with preconditions

BANGKOK, March 18 (TNA) - Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva should open his mind, dispense with preconditions and listen to the 'Red Shirt' United Front for Democracy against Dictatorship (UDD) demand for House dissolution then the UDD will be ready to talk with him, according to UDD core leader Jatuporn Prompan.

Mr Jatuporn was responding to Mr Abhisit's remarks that his government stands ready to talk with the 'Red Shirt' UDD movement, but the anti-government activists must comply with the law without blockading government offices and the homes of key persons and they must stop inciting violence.

Mr Jatuporn said there could be no talks as long as the government refuses to consider dissolving the House of Representatives and calling a general election.

"The premier should open his mind without any precondition, listen to our proposals but should not draw a line for the talks, otherwise the talks should not happen," he said.

Mr Jatuporn, who is also a member of Parliament from the opposition Puea Thai Party said that the UDD would talk only with Mr Abhisit not his representatives and he must come with the same level not higher status than the UDD members.

Mr Jatuporn also said that he was not worried after knowing that a lawyer of the prime minister would take legal actions against fugutive ousted premier Thaksin Shinawatra, Suporn Atthawong, Arisman Pongreungrong and himself for defamation.

He said they were ready to fight the cases.

In related developments, Pol Maj-Gen Amnuay Nimmano, Deputy Commander of the Metropolitan Police Bureau said the prime minister's lawyer had submitted a complaint to the police against the Red Shirt protesters who threw bags of blood into his home in Sukhumvit 31 or Soi Sawasdi.

He said the police had collected evidence which comprised still photos and footages of the throwers and would be charged for making other people's bodies or property 'dirty' and annoying other people.

However, whether the Red Shirt core leaders would face prosecution or not, Gen Amnuay said, would depend on Pol Maj-Gen Wichai Sangprapai, commander of the Metropolitan Police Bureau's Division 1, who led the negotiation team.

He said Gen Wichai was a prime witness who could tell that the Red Shirt leaders had encouraged the protesters to hurl the bags into the prime minister's home.

The prime minister's lawyer was reportedly taking legal action against Mr Thaksin for his video link speech to his supporters during a rally at Phan Fa Bridge, accusing Mr Abhisit of being as a dictator.

The three men -- Mr Jatuporn, Mr Suporn and and Mr Arisman -- will be sued for the replay of the edited audio clip of Mr Abhisit's speech before the Songkran riots last year in which the premier allegedly ordered to use violence to crack down the protesters. (TNA)
