KU BAND TV CHANNELS TO BE INCREASED
Ulaanbaatar, /MONTSAME/ In a view of implementing the governmental activity program in 2004-2008 on increasing a number of TV channels across the country, the Communications Regulatory Committee (CRC) introduced Wednesday its proposal to introduce the "KU" band, one of portions of the electromagnetic spectrum in the microwave range of frequencies.
By announcing a tender, the CRC has already selected an organization to establish a station of KU band and to carry out the service. Then, the "GEM International" company was selected as the performer. In accordance with the contract, the company will distribute free-of-charge 10 TV channels to people nationwide. If a consumer wants to watch more than ten channels, he/she will have to pay MNT 40,700 for buying a code detecting apparatus.
As of present, some 90 thousand herdsmen are receiving TV programs. Over 30 per cent of about 24 thousand of them are watching various TV channels using the KU band, according to survey.
