Moscow keen to boost ties with Tehran

Moscow, March 18, IRNA - Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Alexei Borodavkin Wednesday evening called for further strengthening of ties between Tehran and Moscow.

Borodavkin made the remark in a meeting with Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister for Legal and International Affairs Mohammad-Mehdi Akhoundzadeh.

The Russian diplomat urged closer cooperation between the two neighboring states in order to confront existing regional and international threats.

He also underlined the need for cooperation between the two sides to tackle terrorism and extremism.

Borodavkin reiterated that Tehran-Moscow relations will also help resolve the current issues in the Caucasus and the Caspian Sea region.

Akhoundzadeh, for his part, said that close cooperation between Iran and Russia will help confront challenges the two countries are faced especially extremism and the rise of drugs production in Afghanistan.

The Iranian official said that the presence of foreign forces in Afghanistan is the main reason behind the rise in drugs production.

The two officials also called for joint efforts to combat terrorism, organized crimes and drugs production as well as moves to establish peace and stability throughout the region./end
