LANDS TRANSFERRED TO SPECIAL USE AREAS
Ulaanbaatar, /MONTSAME/ Wednesday's cabinet meeting made a decision to reflect 7,4287.0 hectares areas in Bulgan aimag's Bayannuur, Dashinchilen, Rashaant soums, Ovorkhangai aimag's Burd, Bayan-Ondor soums, and Tov aimag's Delgerkhaan, Ondorshireet and Erdenesant soums in the list of special zone that used for pasture transhumance.
In recent years, desertification is intensively continuing in pasture areas of Mongolia due to global climate change and human various factors. The carrying capacity of pastures is worsening in Gobi and steppe regions making people run transhumance in soums and aimags, especially among authorities and herdsmen of Dundgobi, Ovorkhangai, Tov and Bulgan aimags. Since it causes conflicts, a Minister of Food, Agriculture and Light Industry T.Badamjunai and a Minister of Roads, Transportation, Construction and Urban Development had been ordered to study a special contract on newly arranging pasture zones and to introduce it to the cabinet within December of 2009.
In accordance with this order, a research into the pasture areas in Tov, Bulgan and Ovorkhangai provinces was approved and introduced to the government. According to a report of the governmental united fund for 2009, Mongolia has 115.3 million hectares of pasture and hay fields.
