PACE CHIEF SPEAKS TO AZERBAIJAN SPEAKER

Baku, 01 July, (AzerTAj)President of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, PACE, Lluis Maria de Puig met with Azerbaijan`s Speaker Ogtay Asadov on Tuesday.
Lluis Maria de Puig is in Baku to familiarize himself how the country is preparing for forthcoming presidential elections.
Asadov said since European integration is one of the highest foreign policy priorities for Azerbaijan, the country places particular emphasis on the development of its relationships with international organizations, including the Council of Europe.
The Speaker spoke of the long-standing Nagorno-Karabakh conflict between Azerbaijan and Armenia, stressing it is Armenians` non-constructive stance which impedes the process of finding a peaceful solution to the dispute.
Ogtay Asadov expressed gratitude to PACE for backing Azerbaijan`s stance on the conflict.
Lluis Maria de Puig said he is ready to give every contribution to enhancing the PACE-Azerbaijan cooperation.
The PACE chief praised the activity of Azerbaijan`s delegation to the Assembly.
He expressed conference his Baku trip will give the impetus to further develop the relationships between the organization and the country.
