Iranian scholar becomes member of intl. folk studies center

TEHRAN, March 17 (MNA) -- Iranian female scholar Mehri Baqeri was elected as the Vice-President representing Asia at the recent assembly of the International Society for Folk Narrative Research (ISFNR) in Athens, Greece.

Baqeri, who is an associate professor at Tabriz University, Faculty of Letters had been elected for the position for two previous terms.

The society is a scholarly and professional organization of international specialists in the areas of folk narrative, popular literature, folklore and related fields.

The idea of the ISFNR emerged during the first international congress of folk-narrative scholars in Kiel and Copenhagen in 1959. The Society’s official formal establishment took place at a meeting in Antwerp (Belgium) in 1962. Since then, the society has convened regularly for conventions and interim conferences, most recently in Athens (Greece).

The Executive Committee of the ISFNR is elected by the general assembly and consists of the president, vice-presidents representing different continents, treasurer, and three ordinary members.

Along with the president, the vice-presidents form the Membership Committee of the Society, under a chair to be elected from among themselves.
