Yemen seeks to boost cement industry

SANA'A, March 13 (Saba) - Yemen's cement
factories plan to increase their output to 5 million tonnes a year as competition
with private
sector and regional producers enters a new phase.
There are plans to expand the three main factories Bajil, Barh and Amran, whose
current output is estimated about 2.3 million tons a year, as Yemen seeks to boost
national
cement industry.
A report by the Industry and Trade Committee in Parliament has urged to help the
National Cement Corporation to provide necessary equipment and funds to improve
cement products
for less prices and provide fuel alternatives amid high prices of diesel and mazot
mainly used to operate the factories as well as tackling all challenges facing
cement industry
in Yemen.
The competition with the private sector and regional producers is now vigorous,
hence, the Yemeni Cement Corporation should work hard to improve its products, the
report
urged.
