Iran-Pakistan media interaction stressed

Islamabad, March 13, IRNA -- Pakistan Information Minister Qamar Zaman Kaira and Iranian ambassador in Islamabad Masha’Allah Shakeri Friday called for great media interaction and exchange of visits of media persons.

Kaira said in meting with Iranian ambassador that both countries can benefit from one another's media experiences and they should pool human and technical resources to fill the gaps as people of the two countries want to know about one another, the minister’s office said.

"The exchange visits of media persons between the two countries needs to be resumed as they can work towards removing differences and misunderstandings, if any, between the people of the countries", he added.

The Minister said that the real war against terrorism is to fight the extremist mindset of people, as without changing that mindset, it would not be possible to win the minds and hearts of the people completely. He said that the role of media becomes crucial as it can help truly win this war on terror.

"A combination of different types of media can be used to deliver the message of rejecting this extremist mindset", he added. He said that Pakistan and Iran have to join hands in this war against terror.

He said that there is a need of enhancing journalist interaction and visits between Pakistan and Iran so as to improve understanding and cooperation between the two brotherly countries.

The Minister said that Pakistan and Iran enjoy historical cordial relations as they are bound together by historical, cultural, geographical and religious ties. He said that there is a need to capitalize on these shared values and to find out ways to enhance cooperation in all fields.

The Iranian ambassador said that production quality of Iranian films and documentaries has markedly improved recently and this fact has been recognized all over the world. He said that Iran can share expertise with Pakistan to help with the growth of Pakistani media industry.

He stressed the need to promote the message of peace in the teachings of Sufi saints and philosophers, especially the philosophy of Dr. Allama Iqbal, to help promote moderate values and behaviors in the society.

The ambassador said that media heads from both the countries should join hands and collaborate in media development. He agreed with the need of exchange visits of journalist from both the countries and said that the press clubs of the countries can collaborate in this regard./end
