Japan, Brazil to Set Up Wireless Broadband Forum
Tokyo, March 9 (Jiji Press)--Japan's Internal Affairs and
Communications Ministry said Tuesday that it has agreed with Brazil's
Communications Ministry to set up a joint forum aimed at beefing up
cooperation in developing advanced wireless broadband technologies.
Japan intends to boost its presence in the field of wireless
broadband technologies after some Latin American countries, including
Brazil, have adopted Japan's terrestrial digital television format.
The forum will hold its first meeting shortly, according to
officials of the Japanese ministry.
Specifically, the Japanese and Brazilian ministries will study
jointly developing a next-generation mobile phone technology, called
Long-Term Evolution, technologies related to the Worldwide Interoperability
for Microwave Access, or WiMAX, wireless communications format and
inter-vehicle communications systems.
After adopting the Japanese digital TV format in 2006, Brazil
started third-generation, or 3G, mobile phone services in 2007. The country
is enthusiastic about introducing advanced wireless communications
technologies.
