Iran, Japan, victims of weapons of mass destruction

Tokyo, June 28, IRNA - Iran and Japan are two victims of weapons of mass destruction in the world, Iran's Ambassador to Japan said on Friday.
He told a press conference on the occasion of 20th anniversary of chemical bombardment of the city of Sardasht in June 1987, Western Iran, by Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein that Iran is the victim of chemical weapons and Japan is the victim of nuclear bombs.
"Backed by certain Western governments, several other Iranian border villages were also attacked by chemical bombs by the Iraqi dictator," the envoy added.
He regretted that the local residents of the areas attacked by US-backed Iraqi dictator in 1980s and the Iranian soldiers are still suffering from the wounds and effects of those chemical weapons.
Araqchi made it clear that the Islamic Republic of Iran never thinks of possessing weapons of mass destruction, because such a weapon has brought nothing except for deaths and destructions.
Outlining the latest developments over Iran's peaceful nuclear program, he voiced Tehran's readiness to resume talks on the dispute.
As to Iran's package of proposals, he said Tehran is ready to form a consortium with participation of all world states to help remove any probable global concern regarding its nuclear activities.
In its package, the Islamic Republic has also announced its readiness to hold constructive negotiations with international community on Lebanon, Palestine, Afghanistan, and Iraq.
On Tehran-Tokyo relations, he said the two countries enjoy amicable ties. He expressed the hope that all-out cooperation between the two countries would further develop.
