Police nab two Iranians, three Thais in two drug cases
BANGKOK, March 9 (TNA) – Two Iranian women were taken into custody at Thailand’s main airport for allegedly smuggling nearly five kilogrammes of crystal methamphetamine, commonly known as "ice," while members of an alleged Hmong drug syndicate were arrested in Chiang Mai with 300,000 speed pills and almost one kilogramme of ice.
The police detained the two Iranians at Suvarnabhumi Airport, with 4.48kg of ‘ice’ hidden in their baggage while they were moving the luggage trolley through a customs checkpoint.
The suspected smugglers flew via Iran Air from Iran to Dubai, United Arab Emirates to transit to Thailand.
Police assumed that the duo used Thailand as a base before distributing illegal drugs to other countries such as Japan, Korea and Malaysia while some were to be sold to partygoers in the Patpong and Nana areas in Bangkok.
Meanwhile, narcotics suppression police in the northern province of Chiang Mai apprehended three members of an alleged Hmong drug syndicate in Phrao district, impounding 300,000 methamphetamine pills and 929 grammes of ‘ice’ concealed in their pickup truck.
Vejjayan Wangpattanakul and two associates said that they were hired by a man named Jay in Tak’s Mae Sot district to transfer the illicit drugs to a customer in Pathum Thani, north of the capital. (TNA)
