PROJECT OF IMPROVING JUDICIAL SYSTEM OF JUVENILES IN YEMEN LAUNCHED



SANA'A, March 06 (Saba)- In cooperation with the European Union( EU) and UNICEF, Ministry of Justice launched on Saturday a project of improving the judicial system of juveniles in Yemen.

The € 4.2 million project aims at insuring minimum fair treatment for children who have legal issues.

The UE is funding the project with € 3.5 million and UNICEF contribution to the project was €700,000. The project will offer good environment of protection for children and set up special courts for juveniles as well as integrate them into the society.

Minister of Justice Ghazi al-Aghbari said that Yemen would work with its partners to bring the project into success, asking the technical committee of the project to do its role by drawing practical plans to carry out the project. He valued support of the EU and UNICEF for issues of juveniles.

For his part, the EU ambassador to Yemen affirmed importance of finding out solutions for reasons that push children to commit criminal acts in the country.

The UNICEF representative to Yemen pointed out to the importance of the project to enhance participation of women in the judicial system for juveniles which would better environment of protection for children.
