Tehran, Ankara ink industrial MOU

TEHRAN, March 6 (MNA) – Iranian Industries and Mines Minister Ali-Akbar Mehrabian and Turkish Industry and Trade Minister Nihat Ergun signed a memorandum of understanding here on Tuesday to expand industrial cooperation.

The two sides agreed to promote bilateral ties in the fields of automotive, construction, weaving, and wood industries.

They put emphasis on developing joint investment plans, technology transfer, and supporting their private sectors to enhance relations.

Iran's Small-Scale Industries and Industrial Estates Organization Director Khodamorad Ahmadi and Turkey's Artisanship and Small Industrial Sites General Director Ramazan Yildirim signed here on Tuesday an MOU for building a joint border industrial park.

Turkish State Minister Cevdet Yilmaz said early February in a meeting with Iranian Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki that Turkey aimed at opening a "golden age" in Turkish-Iranian relations.

Yilmaz said Turkey and Iran were two "friend and brother" countries, adding that the development of bilateral relations would make positive contributions to the stability and prosperity in the region.

The trade volume between the two countries exceeded 10 billion dollars for the first time in 2008, but decreased to 5.5 billion dollars in 2009 due to the fallout from global economic recession.

Turkey and Iran are aimed at raising the trade volume to as high as 30 billion dollars within five years.
