Leader urges Islamic nations to seek unity

TEHRAN, March 6 (MNA) – Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei called on Islamic governments, Muslim intellectuals, and Muslim political and social activists to try to bring about unity among Muslims and defend their rights.
He made the remarks on the birth anniversary of Prophet Muhammad (S) on Thursday at a meeting attended by heads of the three branches of the government, Expediency Council Chairman Ayatollah Hashemi Rafsanjani, foreign ambassadors, and the scholars from 48 countries who had participated at the 23rd international Islamic Unity Conference in Tehran.
If amity and unity among Muslims are strengthened, then most of problems facing the Muslim world such as the Palestine issue can be resolved, the explained.
He described the fake Zionist regime of Israel as a “dangerous cancerous tumor” and said the only way to fight against this “deadly cancer” is to act according to the teachings of Islam and Prophet Muhammad (S).
Recalling the truth about Islam and practicing the teachings of the Prophet “are the Islamic ummah’s essential and urgent needs,” Ayatollah Khamenei emphasized.
He also pointed to efforts by the United States and Britain to undermine the Islamic ummah (community of the believers) by instigating division and discord among Muslims.
“These hegemonic tyrants know well that discord and polarization will divert the Islamic ummah’s attention from the important issue of Palestine, and that is why they seek to fan the fire of ethnic, geographical, and religious divisions among the Shia and Sunni and among the followers of various Islamic schools of thought,” he explained.
Elsewhere in his remarks, the Leader pointed to the potentialities of the Islamic world such as controlling the geo-strategically important points and possessing rich natural resources and talented human resources, and raised a key question: why is such a large population afflicted with issues such as poverty, discrimination and backwardness and why can’t it defend its rights?
