YEMEN MEETING AFTER WORLD CARMAKERS RECALL MILLIONS OF MODELS
SANA'A, Mar. 03 (Saba) - Minister of Industry and Trade Yahya al-Mutawakil chaired on Wednesday a meeting on recent car recalls by world carmakers triggered by failures with some models.
The meeting urged the concerned authorities in Yemen to check if some of the recalled models were found in the country and accredited car agents to provide good information about the matter in an effort to withdraw them from the local market.
The agents of those carmakers which discovered failures in some of their products should work and provide enough information on the recalled models and how they can be repaired.
They should also notify their clients that they would bear the costs to repair their cars under direct supervision from the ministry.
The meeting also dealt with necessary measures to prevent models with potential problems from entering Yemen, either new or used cars. In this regard, the meeting urged the Yemen Standardization, Metrology and Quality Control Organization (YSMO) to finalize technical procedures relating to car standards as well as inspecting used cars which enter Yemen from neighboring states.
The meeting came because the ministry cares about the safety of Yemeni consumers and to avoid bad consequences that may come as a result of product failures, al-Mutawakil said.
He called on the Traffic Authorities to cooperate on the issue and the people to alert the concerned authorities about any failures with their cars.
During the meeting, the Association for Yemeni Consumer Protection displayed car models that were recalled by carmakers due to potential problems, pointing to the measures taken over the issue.
In recent months, big carmakers have recalled millions of car models with potential problems including brake failure.
