OVER $30 MLN TO RAISE SEWAGE TREATMENT PLANT EFFICIENCY IN SANA'A
SANA'A, March 03 (Saba)- An agreement was signed here on Wednesday to raise the efficiency of the sewage treatment plant in the capital Sana'a with more than $30 million.
The agreement, which was signed by the Capital Sana'a's Mayor Abdul Rahman al-Akwa with the consortium consisted of the PWT German Company and Al-Towaity National Company, aimed to increase the efficiency of the treatment plant to meet the big expansion of the sewerage systems in the capital and to develop solutions to all operational problems experienced by the plant currently.
In the signing ceremony, al-Akwa said that the project is one of the most important strategic projects in the capital Sana'a as it comes within the immediate solutions for the problems of water and sanitation faced by the capital and also to reduce the depletion suffered by the Sana'a water basin and it would contribute directly to address many issues of water scarcity.
According to the technical studies, the project's outputs will serve 1.2 million people and it is expected to benefit from 50 thousand cubic liters of treated water extracted daily from this plant, in addition to the production of electrical energy from biogas, al-Akwa pointed out.
The project, co-funded by the Arab Fund for Economic and Social Development and the Yemeni government, consists of units to lift the water, refineries, two trains to separate sand and oil, settling ponds, biogas production unit, and an emergency pond in addition to units to generate electricity from biogas.
The project aims to improve wastewater treatment and collection systems for the project areas and the environmental situation, preserve the groundwater from pollution by sewage and promote the efficiency and performance of the Local Water and Sanitation Corporation.
