Finance minister sees no need to change economic team

BANGKOK, June 27 (TNA) – Thailand's Finance and Deputy Prime Minister Surapong Suebwonglee on Friday affirmed he saw no need to change the economic team following the parliamentary censure debate.
He conceded the government needed to speed up improvement of its
performance continually in the wake of the three-day censure debate.
Prime Minister Samak Sundaravej was confident and determined to continue working until his four-year term ends.
"I believe clarifications made by the prime minister and all ministers will boost foreign investor confidence. The government will not yet change the economic team because the economic problems the country is facing now occurred before (this government) took office," he said. "So far, it has managed to solve many problems."
Dr. Surapong said there would be no discussion regarding a cabinet
reshuffle yet because all ministers continued to perform their duties
satisfactorily.
Regarding non-parliamentary political movements, the deputy prime minister said he believed there would be no violence if everyone respected democratic procedures.
He said he was confident police would manage to keep peace and order.
Thai shares closed 0.17 percent higher on Friday due mainly to buying by institutional investors before the end of the second quarter, dealers said, adding that investors were upbeat after the six-party coalition government survived a vote of no-confidence in lower house of Parliament.
